Memeza Africa is a dynamic 22 piece ensemble of traditional African singers, dancers & drummers. Their high energy performance delivers a collage of sound with stunning harmonies, powerful soloists and a blend of musical cultures.

The members of this multi-talented choir originate from Soweto, South Africa located 20 kilometres southwest of Johannesburg. Soweto is South Africa’s largest black community alive with a vibrant energy and rich in culture and history.

Memeza Africa presents a beautiful blend of musical styles, while also delivering a brilliant display of traditional African song, dance and drumming. It reflects cultural values, teaches us understanding and acceptance and interprets our hopes and dreams for a brighter future in South Africa.

Memeza Africa fuses the sounds of a traditional South African choir with the singer/songwriter talents of Canadian Holly Wright. This group was born out of Holly’s dream to re-record her song, "The World Shall Love Again" while living in South Africa. She met with choir director, Jimmy Mulovhedzi, and through their mutual passion for the message of this song, soon developed a strong bond and common goal – to bring their two cultures together through music, and spread a message of love and tolerance. This lead to a unique and powerful musical collaboration, bringing together the songs and styles of South Africa and Canada.

The majority of the choir's members are unemployed and through their gift of music they hope to generate an income for themselves and their families, as well as being Ambassadors for the fight against HIV / AIDS in South Africa. Memeza Africa not only gives members the opportunity to showcase their talents, but offers the potential to provide an income for the members in a community where the unemployment rate is staggering. Employment for one choir member directly impacts an average of seven to ten people as when one earns a living, it is shared among all family and extended family members.

Members of this choir have performed for or shared the stage with: Nelson Mandela; Desmond Tutu; Oprah Winfrey; Quincy Jones; Ladysmith Black Mombazo & the Soweto Gosple Choir.
